Let’s Make a Change with Agriventor

In the 1980s, our country became a major exporting country of rice in Asian region. Once upon a time, a country like Malaysia who has learned how to grow crops on us is now in reverse condition, we are learning from them. Right now, we are the ones who buy the rice from them.

In 1980s, Vietnam also studied in Indonesia. But over the course of several years, Vietnam has been sped away from us. Now, Vietnam is exporting rice to Indonesia.

Why did it happen? Is not Indonesia a very fertile country with vast agricultural land? If we look at soil fertility and the extent of agricultural land, Indonesia should be the richest country in terms of food security. What plants can not grow in Indonesia? Moreover, Japan is often hit by various disasters, such as earthquakes and tsunamis that can damage farmland. But now, the land is not a problem, Japan can plant rice on top of the building or in a closed room with lighting systems and temperatures are arranged in such a way. Japan’s agricultural excellence is of course due to its increasingly advanced agricultural technology.

So it is with the United States. The country is among the world’s largest exporters of agricultural crops. In addition to exporting agricultural products, they also export their seeds, such as corn, potato, and soybean seeds, wheat, and others. Australia too, the country includes exporters of fruits and livestock such as beef and milk. China is not left behind. Many agricultural products are imported from this country, especially vegetables such as chili, rice, corn, and soy.

Based on the fact, Gerakan Pemuda Tani Indonesia (Gempita) and Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) held “Agriventor 2017: Competition of Young Inventors”, agricultural technology innovation competition for the young generation of Indonesia. This activity is to encourage the emergence of an advanced young generation with the latest discoveries in agriculture, which would be applicable in support of the use of advanced technology in agriculture to improve agricultural products and the welfare of Indonesians. “Later on, every team is required to create a tool with technological improvement that can improve the use of technology that aims to facilitate the operation and can improve agricultural output,” said Muhammad Riyada ( Kornas Gempita ). There are five categories in Agriventor 2017, which are appropriate technological innovations, using domestic products, smart and sophisticated agricultural machinery and tools, agricultural tools that can improve agricultural products, and agricultural tools that can facilitate farmers in the process of planting, care to harvest.


International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) is the World Biggest Student Association in The Field of Agriculture and Related Sciences. IAAS was founded in 1957 and started with only 8 member countries.For the last 60 years, IAAS has grown into a big organization with 53 member countries and more than 10,000 active members. IAAS Indonesia was found by Mr. Arif Satria on December 29th 1992. By the year of 2020, IAAS Indonesia has 11 Local Committees across the country with more than 1200 active members.
